This month I was so happy to be able to get an interview with one of my favorite tweeters on Twitter. LeA Robinson! Super Sweet 16er alum, and also known as the granddaughter of Hip Hop. Now focusing on her music career as a singer, LeA gives us a little bit of her background and the person behind the musical notes and well known lifestyle.
Faith: Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you started getting into music?
LeA: I was pretty much born into the music world. My grandmother Sylvia Robinson was a singer, producer, record label executive, founder and CEO of Sugar Hill Records. As a child I was brought up listening to music and I loved singing and entertaining people from a young age.
Faith: We all know your big brother and his success with the Super Sweet 16 event, how did you feel when you planned yours? Being a younger sibling did you feel like you had to top his just for bragging rights? I do it all the time LoL :)
LeA: It was fun, I never really worry about competing, I just do what I like and it often works well. (Laughs) The show definitely made it seem as if we were in competition (Laughs) but I was just being a teenager and doing what I was into which happened to be horror, monsters, and glitz.
Faith: What can you say inspires you the most in your music?
LeA: Life. I write the most when I arrive at a challenge or I feel some type of way about something that has happened to me. Writing for me is like free therapy...it's awesome. Many other people frown upon life's obstacles and difficulties; I take them and create songs I know someone in the world can relate to.
Faith: When you see how music inspires the youth today, what are some things you would want listeners to take away from your music?
LeA: I'm human too. I deal with many of the same problems that many other people and teens face and I really want them to hear that.
Faith: I see you on twitter all of the time. You are one of the few who actually get personal with your supporters and talk to them on a regular basis. How does it make you feel when they show their love and give testimony on how you've impacted them?
LeA: Its the greatest feeling in the world when my fans and supporters show love to me. I can me having the worst day in the world and when a fan tweets my lyrics or say I inspire or encourage them to dream, its such a wonderful feeling. Although it gets a little crazy sometimes, I try my hardest to tweet everyone back and you can see that they really appreciate that, that's why I take the time to do it.
Faith: I agree 100 percent! You bring so much fun and loving energy to our time lines so I know I appreciate it,especially your motivational tweets on Mondays!
Faith: As always, everything that glitters wont be gold. What are, if any, downsides of your lifestyle? Or is there anything(s) that you wish you could change sometimes?
LeA: Honestly I'm usually always happy and smiling but I'm human and not everyday is a great one. Sometimes I wish people didn't recognize me on those days that are not so great but I knew what came along with this lifestyle when I got into it so I've just learned how to deal with it and just be grateful for the blessings that God has given me.
Faith: What inspired your Motivational Tweets? How have people's reactions been?
LeA: Well #MotivationalMonday on my Twitter started because I got fed up with people saying that Monday is the worst day of the week. Honestly Monday happens to be my favorite day. It's a start of a brand new week and excited for what's to come for the rest of the week. People love #MotivationMonday, my fans actually get angry if I don't tweet by a certain time (Laughs).
Faith: Lastly, can you give out some advice to anyone who may want to pursue a career in the music business?
LeA: Definitely. Know the industry that you're getting into. DO YOUR RESEARCH! So many artist's. producers, and writers see dollar signs and sign their name on a dotted line not knowing the real details in their contracts. Don't be afraid to ask questions or for help. When you don't ask questions for help that's when you get taken advantage of.
Faith: Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate you giving me your time and making a contribution to my blog. Hopefully we can do another catch up interview soon if you are ever in the DMV, just give me a shout!! :)
LeA: Thanks for having me :)
